As scorching temperatures continue to rise across Bangladesh

the country is facing a severe heatwave that shows no signs of easing up. On Saturday, the Bangla New Year’s second day proved even hotter than the first, with Chuadanga reaching a record-breaking 42.2 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous high of 42 degrees Celsius in 2014. Meanwhile, the capital city of Dhaka reached a decade-high of 40.4 degrees Celsius, with no relief in sight. Record-breaking temperatures continue to soar as heatwave intensifies in Dhaka 2

Dhaka has been experiencing an unprecedented heatwave due to the lack of rain for several weeks.

On Friday, the city recorded a decade high temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius, which rose to 40.4 degrees Celsius the following day. Meteorologist Shariful Newaz Kabir predicts that temperatures will remain high for a few more days before dropping slightly, but it won’t fall significantly for some time. According to Bazlur Rashid, a meteorologist, the highest temperature on record in Dhaka was 42.3 degrees Celsius in April 2016, with notable highs of 40.2 degrees Celsius in April 2014 and 39.6 degrees Celsius in 2009.
Seven districts, including Khulna, Dhaka, and Rajshahi, are currently facing a severe heatwave, with a mild to moderate heatwave affecting the rest of the country. Temperatures ranging from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius are considered mild, while 38 to 40 degrees Celsius is classified as a moderate heatwave. Severe heatwaves are those with mercury readings of 40 to 42 degrees Celsius, and temperatures above 42 degrees Celsius are considered extreme heatwaves. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecasts that the weather will stay dry with partly cloudy skies over the country, with a trough of low pressure lying over West Bengal and the adjoining area.
